Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Pomsky?

A Pomsky is a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. This breeding is done by artificial insemination to ensure both dog’s safety. Pomskys are considered a designer breed. Therefore, Pomskys are not recognized by American Kennel Club as a pure breed - yet! At Snake River Pomskys we believe it’s important to us to use AKC registered Siberian Huskies and Pomeranians to guarantee quality and health.

Pomskys generally range between 10-35 lbs and come in a variety of colors. We generally produce Reds/browns, blacks, and blue pomsky pups although we get a few greys every once in a while. Eyes may be brown, amber, green, blue, or any combination of those colors! Our pups can have wooly coats (like a Pomeranian), as well as standard plush coats (like a Husky), both of which shed their coats twice a year.

Pomsky Terms

F1 – This is a first-generation 50/50 Pomsky resulting from two purebred parents, a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian cross.
F1b – This is a second-generation 25/75 or 75/25 Pomsky resulting from one Pomsky parent and one purebred parent. This is done with both purebred Siberian Huskies and purebred Pomeranians to achieve either a bigger or smaller Pomsky.
F2 – This is a second-generation 50/50 Pomsky resulting from two F1 Pomsky parents.

F2b - Like in the F1b, the B stands for backcross - in this case, a purebred Pomeranian or Siberian Husky, OR an F1b, is crossed with an F2 Pomsky,
Multigen – a dog with multiple generations of Pomeranian/Siberian Husky crosses behind them. A multi-gen dog is a necessity if a breeder wants to pursue a dog that ‘breeds true’- ie, produces offspring that look mostly like itself, with regards to size, markings, and other characteristics.

What determines price?

Generally, the cost of a Pomsky puppy ranges from $1000-$4000. There are many factors when it comes to pricing a puppy such as color, size, markings, and mask type. Solid standard coat puppies with brown eyes will fall in the 1K range whereas rare merle and blue/lavender pups with husky masks and blue eyes will fall in the 4k price range. Shipping is included in the price of all Snake River Pomsky puppies, however, if you’d like to pick up your puppy $500 will be deducted from the total cost.

Do you sell breeding rights?

Occasionally we do offer breeding rights to qualified breeders although we have very strict criteria that must be met in order for that to happen.

Why are Contracts Important?

Snake River makes it their mission to ensure the safety, physical, mental, and emotional health of ALL of their litters throughout the entirety of their lives. Contracts protect both the seller and buyer and promote a positive experience for all parties involved, including the puppies. As an ethical breeder, Snake River Pomskys remains responsible for all Pomskys we bring into this world. We will always be there to support the buyer throughout their Pomsky puppy’s life, and we will always take back the puppy for whatever reason. No member of our pack will ever see the walls of a shelter or be irresponsibly bred. To prevent irresponsible breeding we require proof of spay/neuter at the age of 6 months for all puppies. In the event that you must return your Pomsky to us, we will keep them until we find them a loving home, however long that takes. Our contract ensures that you are bringing home a healthy vet checked puppy. We pride ourselves on honesty, integrity, and transparency in everything we do so you won’t find any fine print in our contract.

How big do Pomskys get?

Pomsky size varies depending on the size of the mom and dad. There may even be variance in the size of puppies within the same litter. We can usually estimate your puppy’s full-grown size based on their growth as a pup. On average Pomskys range from 10-40 pounds however 20 pounds is standard. The type of coat your dog has can also influence how large they look. Some wooly coated Pomskys look larger than standard coated Pomskys at the same weight.

How does the waitlist work?

Our waitlist for future litters is always open! To join the waitlist, we require a non-refundable $300 deposit to be paid. This is taken out of the total fee for your puppy. Choosing of puppies goes in order of deposits received and happens around 4-6 weeks of age. Your deposit is good until we find you the puppy you love most! Your deposit confirms that you intend to follow through with your purchase. It is non-refundable if you change your mind.  Upon submitting the deposit to join the waiting list, you are agreeing to all terms and conditions marked out in our contract.

**We reserve the right to keep any puppy or puppies from any litter. The Waiting List applies to all puppies available after our pick(s), if any, have been made.

What is included with my Pomsky?

Our goal is to make sure your Pomsky puppy comes home to you ready for family life! From the moment they are born, they are hearing all the sounds of daily living. We hand raise each puppy in our home and they live daily life with our family and eight grandkids. As they grow, they are being played with, interacting with other dogs, along with other stimulants to ensure they are well socialized. In addition to raising all of our puppies in our home with us, we want to make sure you have the tools needed to make puppy's transition to their new home as smooth as possible.

To ease the transition from our home to yours we send every pup off with their own Puppy Pack which includes the following:

  • Puppy food

  • Blanket with mommas smell

  • Puppy journal

  • A picture

  • Useful information

  • 30-day pet insurance

  • Vitamins to help them grow big and strong

Will my Pomsky shed?

The short answer is yes. Much like the breeds that make up the Pomsky (Pomeranian + Husky) they do shed. Pomskys have a double coat, which means that they have a short undercoat as well as a longer outer coat. This is to protect them from extreme cold as well as heat. Most of the year, the shedding will be very minimal and weekly brushing should suffice. However, twice a year, Pomskys will blow their coat, meaning that they lose their undercoat. This happens before cold winter and before hot summer, so they can grow their new undercoat for protection. The best way to handle this is to take your Pomsky outside and brush them daily while they blow their coat. It can take 2-3 weeks for them to drop most of their undercoat, but with daily maintenance, you should avoid getting too much hair in your home.
